Top tips for hurricane preparation:

1. Create an evacuation plan.
2. Stock your home with supplies should you shelter in place. Your hurricane prep shopping list should include non-perishable food items, water, and medicine for each member of your family to last for at least 3 days – don’t forget your pet’s food! Batteries, flashlights, battery lanterns, and a battery-powered radio are also needed when the electricity goes out.
3. Get a better understanding of terms used by meteorologists. Read more here.
4. Ensure that your generator has had maintenance in the past 6 months to function appropriately during power outages.
