Generac Generator Accessories and OEM Parts

Accessories make a standby generator easier to live with. Parts keep it running. Both work best when they are made for your exact unit.

01

Why OEM parts matter

OEM means original equipment manufacturer. A Generac part is built and tested for the Generac engine and controller it goes into. Aftermarket filters, batteries and sensors can look the same and still fit poorly, wear faster or confuse the controller. When the unit has one job, starting during an outage, it is worth using the parts it was designed around.

02

Accessories vs replacement parts

Accessories add something the generator did not come with, such as remote monitoring, load management or a base trim kit. Replacement parts swap out something that wore out, such as a battery, filter, spark plug or circuit board. We sell and install both. Tell us what you want the generator to do differently, or what failed, and we point you to the right item.

03

Finding the right part for your model

Generators that look alike often take different parts. The model number and serial number on the data label, usually inside the enclosure or on the side, tell us exactly what fits. A photo of that label texted to (713) 467-1125 is the fastest way to get the right part the first time. If you cannot reach the label safely, a photo of the whole unit and the controller screen still helps us narrow it down.

Mobile Link Monitoring and Generator WiFi Setup

A standby generator works when you are not home. Monitoring lets you know it is ready when you are not home either.

01

What Generac Mobile Link shows you

Mobile Link connects your Generac generator to an app on your phone. You can see whether it is ready, when it last exercised, whether it is running during an outage and any alerts or maintenance reminders. If a fault comes up while you are traveling, you hear about it right away instead of finding out at the next outage.

02

Cellular and WiFi connections

Newer Generac units often come with Mobile Link built in, and some connect over cellular with WiFi as a backup. Older units can usually add a Mobile Link accessory. WiFi only works if your router signal reaches the generator and stays up during an outage, which is why the connection type matters. We check signal at the unit before recommending one.

03

Adding monitoring to an existing generator

If your generator does not report to an app, it may only need a Mobile Link module and setup. We confirm your model supports it, install the module and walk you through the app. You can also add us as your servicing dealer in the app, so we can see alerts and plan maintenance with you.

Generator Batteries and Battery Chargers

The battery is the part most likely to keep a standby generator from starting. It deserves its own attention.

01

The right battery for your generator

Standby generators use a specific battery type and size, and the right one depends on the model and the engine. A battery that is the wrong group size may not fit the tray or hold the terminals securely. One with too little cranking power may start the engine on a mild day and fail on a hard one. We match the battery to your model.

02

Generator battery replacement

Batteries wear out from heat and age even if the generator rarely runs. Houston summers inside a closed enclosure are hard on them. A battery test during annual maintenance shows when one is getting weak, so you can replace it before it fails. If your generator shows a low battery alert, call us before the next storm.

03

Battery chargers

A standby generator keeps its battery topped up with a built-in charger fed from your house power. If the charger fails, the battery slowly runs down and the generator will not start. A dead battery soon after a new one was installed often points to the charger. We test the charger and the circuit that feeds it.

04

Cold weather kits and battery warmers

Freezes are rare in Houston, but they do happen, and a cold engine with thick oil and a cold battery is hard to start. Some generators can take a battery warmer or cold weather kit for those nights. We tell you whether your model supports one and whether it makes sense for where the unit sits.

Load Management and Smart Management Modules

Load management lets a generator run a whole house without being sized for every appliance running at once.

01

What a load management module does

A load management module, which Generac calls a Smart Management Module, watches how much power the generator is producing. When it gets close to the limit, the module turns off a large load for a while. When there is room again, it turns the load back on. The house keeps running and the generator does not overload and shut down.

02

Which loads get managed

Load management works best on big loads that can wait a few minutes, such as a second central AC unit, a pool pump, an electric dryer, a water heater or an EV charger. Refrigerators, lights and medical equipment stay on. We decide which loads to manage based on the load calculation and what matters most to your household.

03

Adding load management to an existing system

If your generator trips during outages when everything runs at once, load management may fix it without a bigger generator. Modules are wired into the circuits they control and connected to the transfer switch, so this is a job for a licensed electrician with a permit where required. We look at your setup and tell you whether it will help.

Generac Maintenance Kits and Replacement Parts

Maintenance kits put the routine wear items for a model in one box. Replacement parts cover the rest.

01

What is in a Generac maintenance kit

A Generac maintenance kit usually includes the oil filter, air filter and spark plugs for a specific model, and some kits include oil. Using the matched kit keeps the service consistent with the factory schedule. Our technicians use these parts during annual maintenance, and we can tell you which kit fits your generator. Kits are model specific, so a kit for one size of air-cooled unit may not fit another.

02

Generac generator parts near you

As a Generac Prestige Dealer, we can source Generac replacement parts, from batteries and filters to control boards, sensors and transfer switch parts. Some common parts are on the shelf at the Tomball showroom and others are ordered by model and serial number. Call ahead and we tell you what is in stock. Ordering by serial number avoids the wrong part and a second trip.

03

Kohler and other brand parts

We work on Kohler and other standby brands too, and we can source parts for them. Have the model and serial number ready. Some parts for older or less common units take longer to get, which is one more reason to service before storm season. If a part for an older unit is no longer made, we tell you the options, including whether a repair still makes sense.

04

When to let a technician install the part

Filters, plugs and oil are routine for a trained technician, but a standby generator can start on its own and is tied into your home's power. Control boards, sensors, chargers and anything inside the transfer switch should be installed by a licensed technician. If you buy a part from us, ask and we can schedule the install.

Covers, Trim Kits and Installation Add-Ons

A few accessories are about protection and appearance. Others make a portable generator safer to use.

01

Should you cover a standby generator?

A home standby generator's enclosure is built to stay outside in rain and sun. Covering it can block airflow and trap moisture, and a covered unit cannot run safely if the power goes out. Follow the manufacturer's guidance for your model. If looks are the concern, landscaping at the right clearance or a manufacturer trim kit is usually the better answer.

02

Base trim kits

Some Generac models offer a trim kit that wraps the base of the unit and hides the gap between the enclosure and the pad. It gives the installation a finished look and helps keep out leaves. We tell you if a kit is available for your model. A trim kit is a finishing piece and does not change how the generator runs. It mounts without blocking the air openings, and we install it so service panels still open freely.

03

Inlet boxes and cords for portable generators

For portable generators, the most important accessory is a safe connection to the house. That means a weatherproof inlet box, a matched cord and a transfer switch or listed interlock installed with a permit. Never back-feed through a wall or dryer outlet. Our transfer switch page explains the options. We size the inlet and cord to the generator's outlet so the plug fits and the cord carries the load without overheating.

04

Whole house surge protection

A whole house surge protector mounts at the panel and helps protect electronics and appliances from surges, including those that can happen when power switches between the utility and a generator. It pairs well with a generator install. We can add one during the same visit. It does not replace plug-in surge strips for sensitive electronics, but it adds a first layer of protection at the panel for the whole house.
